Get involved with what’s going on around you! Every year in my small town there is a triathlon that draws thousands of participants and spectators. There is a small expo the night before and the day of the event where sporting goods brands can show off their wares and connect with the community. Guess who wasn’t there… the local bike shop! Yup! Instead, a mobile repair service from out of town was providing tune-ups and making a great name for themselves!
Yes, it takes some effort to get involved but the rewards are significant. You will see an increase in traffic to your store and more sales but you will also deepen your connection with the local business owners and residents. You will become a pillar to your community and new opportunities to collaborate with other business and local leaders will come.
This same concept works on social media platforms, as well! Bring value to the groups, like and share posts of your friends and other businesses. Help where you can and more and more people will take a look at what you have to offer.
What problem does your business solve? Why not start a group just for your customers or your community that offers advice and ideas. My daughter is a professional photographer and traveled two hours to buy a camera because a clerk at a photography shop invited her to a group he had created just for local photogs. Now, 6000 people strong that group has become a hub for the community and generates business for the shop and many other people in that industry.
Support a local event, teach a class or create a social media group, your community will thank you. Bring value and your community will reward you!
